Be BioProtected against SARS-CoV-2 and other harmful microbials
On 31 December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan City, China. ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2’ (SARS-CoV-2) was confirmed as the causative agent of what we now know as ‘Coronavirus Disease 2019’ (COVID-19). Since then, the virus has spread to more than 100 countries, including South Africa.
BIOPROTECT™ is a durable, EPA registered, bound antimicrobial technology that protects surfaces for up to 90 days without reapplication. BIOPROTECT™ continues to work while in the dry state and creates a non-receptive surface for incoming microbes which physically disrupts and inhibits the growth of a wide spectrum of bacterias, molds, fungi and algae. BIOPROTECT™ does not leach, volatilize or migrate from applied surfaces into the environment or human body.
How it works
When applied to a surface or incorporated into a material, BIOPPROTECT™ forms a covalent bond with the substrate and creates a microbiostatic antimicrobial coating. The coating forms a layer of spikes (self assembling monolayer), each of which carry a positive charge that attracts the negatively charged harmful microbials, such as bacteria, virus, fungi, etc. Once attracted, the molecular spikes pierce the cell and rupture its cell membrane, causing the odor causing bacteria, bacteria which cause staining and discoloration, fungi (mold and mildew), viruses, and algae to die.
